New Delhi [India], July 28 (ANI): Bihar Governor Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd) on Tuesday mentioned India’s strategic neighbourhood now extends far past its rapid land borders, asserting that the nation’s safety pursuits stretch from the Mediterranean approaches to the Western Pacific because it seeks to emerge as an efficient center energy.

Delivering the ninth Jasjit Singh Memorial Lecture on ‘India’s Neighbourhood and Safety Challenges’, organised by the Centre for Air Energy Research (CAPS), Hasnain mentioned India may now not view its neighbourhood by means of a slender South Asian lens.

‘India is now not merely a South Asian energy managing neighbours. It’s an ever-emerging civilizational and maritime energy managing a strategic ecosystem, stretching from the Mediterranean approaches to the Western Pacific,’ he mentioned.

He added, ‘India’s neighbourhood is now not outlined by contiguous land borders, which is what the widespread mindset of individuals in India has at all times been.’

Lt Gen Hasnain (Retd) additionally paid tribute to Air Commodore Jasjit Singh, saying he was ‘far more than simply an impressive officer of the Indian Air Power’ and was among the many pioneers who introduced strategic research into the mainstream nationwide discourse.

Talking on India’s evolving strategic outlook, the Bihar Governor mentioned the nation’s pursuits now span the continental borders, the Indian Ocean, the Persian Gulf, the Crimson Sea, Central Asia, the Bay of Bengal, ASEAN and the Western Pacific.

‘As we want to grow to be an efficient center energy, increasing past our affect, our minds had been restricted to South Asia solely being the neighbourhood. Now, from the continental borders to the Indian Ocean, the Persian Gulf, the Crimson Sea, Central Asia… the Bay of Bengal, ASEAN, Western Pacific, that is all that kinds the strategic stage,’ he mentioned.

Highlighting maritime safety, Hasnain mentioned a good portion of India’s commerce with Europe and the Center East passes by means of crucial sea lanes weak to disruption.
