INDIA ON Friday clarified that it had no position within the media occasion organised by ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5, and acknowledged that it doesn’t endorse something stated on the discussion board concerning the “duly constituted authorities” of Bangladesh.

The assertion comes two days after Hasina introduced in a digital press convention that she plans to return to her nation in December.

Curiously, the MEA’s response didn’t point out “democratically elected authorities of Bangladesh”. Earlier this 12 months, New Delhi had raised questions over the inclusivity of the Bangladesh common elections, held in February, because the Hasina-led Awami League was banned from contesting it. Later, India welcomed the victory of the Bangladesh Nationalist Occasion (BNP) and congratulated its chief and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman; Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla additionally attended his swearing-in ceremony.

Hasina, who has been dwelling in India ever since her ouster in August 2024, faces a dying sentence in Bangladesh. Her celebration, the Awami League, has been banned within the nation.
