Pakistan has assumed the presidency of the United Nations Convention on Disarmament (CD), with Pakistani Ambassador Tahir Hussain Andrabi presiding over the convention’s conferences in Geneva.

In accordance with a spokesperson for Pakistan’s International Workplace, Pakistan will full the convention’s annual proceedings as the ultimate presidency of the 2026 session.

Throughout its presidency, Pakistan will oversee discussions on the convention’s annual report in addition to negotiations on the related decision to be introduced earlier than the UN Common Meeting’s First Committee.

The International Workplace mentioned Ambassador Andrabi has begun consultations in his capability as president of the Convention on Disarmament. He chaired a gathering of the 2026 presidents of the convention and held consultations with representatives of regional teams.

The Convention on Disarmament is the world’s solely multilateral discussion board devoted to negotiating disarmament and arms-control agreements. It has 65 member states, together with nations that possess nuclear weapons.

Its agenda contains stopping an arms race and nuclear conflict. The convention and its predecessor our bodies have additionally performed a task in negotiations on main worldwide agreements, together with the Organic Weapons Conference and Chemical Weapons Conference.

The International Workplace spokesperson mentioned Pakistan’s presidency displays the worldwide group’s confidence within the nation’s diplomatic management.

The presidency will present Pakistan with a possibility to play a central function in discussions on arms management and disarmament, in addition to broader debates regarding worldwide peace and safety.
