Speaker of Parliament Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne endorsed the certification immediately (Aug. 18) on the Animals (Modification) Invoice and the Nationwide Water Provide and Drainage Board (Modification) Invoice.
The Invoice to amend the Animals Act, No. 29 of 1958 was introduced to the Parliament of Sri Lanka for First Studying by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation on 21.07.2026 and was handed by Parliament on 06.08.2026.
The first goal of this modification is to broaden the authorized definition of the time period “animal” in Part 38 of the principal Act. As well as, by redefining the time period “animal”, the modification ensures that goats, pigs and sheep are introduced throughout the scope of the provisions of Half II of the Act. Additional, the related definitions have been clarified in relation to Half IV of the Act to incorporate sheep, goats, pigs and poultry.
The Nationwide Water Provide and Drainage Board (Modification) Invoice was introduced to Parliament for First Studying by the Minister of Housing, Building and Water Provide on 21.07.2026 and was additionally handed by Parliament on 06.08.2026.
The modification modernizes the Nationwide Water Provide and Drainage Board Regulation, No. 24 of 1974, and strengthens the powers and features of the Board regarding the availability of water provide and wastewater administration companies.
