Responding to a query raised by Jayanagar BJP MLA C.Ok. Ramamurthy within the ongoing Karnataka Legislature Session, Chief Minister D.Ok. Shivakumar, who holds cost of the BDA, stated that the BDA and the BSCC must collectively take a name on the way forward for the challenge.

“The query of levying a penalty on the contractor for not ending the challenge doesn’t come up, because the outlets weren’t vacated and handed over to the agency,” he stated.

Talking to The Hindu, Mr. Ramamurthy demanded that the federal government full the challenge and redevelop the remaining three towers.

“If the federal government doesn’t have cash, it may discover choices like Public Non-public Partnership,” he stated. “The redevelopment of the remaining towers is the necessity of the hour. Components of the market have been destroyed within the fireplace and now the deserted ones have change into a den for anti-social actions like drug abuse, and so forth. There was even a homicide there,” he stated.

Various plans and calls for

Nevertheless, each merchants within the Jayanagar market and the BSCC appear to have numerous plans for its future.

Jayaram B.Ok., a member of Jayanagar Merchants’ Affiliation, who had a vegetable store within the previous market which was gutted within the 2009 fireplace, has now been allotted a store on the primary flooring of the redeveloped tower one. “The tower has six flooring. There’s completely no enterprise even on the primary flooring. Our earlier outlets have been 140 sq. ft; the brand new store we’ve got been allotted is a mere 60 sq. ft. How can we do enterprise right here? Our enterprise has dropped sharply,” he stated.

When The Hindu visited the market, outlets had been allotted for 2 flooring, however all outlets on the second flooring have been closed. Even the steps to the third flooring have been barricaded. No one occupies outlets on flooring three to 6.

“The previous market that was gutted within the 2009 fireplace is mendacity deserted. The civic physique’s personal structural engineers have given reviews that the constructing is secure. When outlets on the second to sixth flooring of the developed tower lie deserted, how can the federal government go forward and develop the opposite three towers? Their destiny can even be the identical and trigger losses to the civic physique. We’ve been demanding that the previous constructing be renovated and outlets allotted,” he stated.

Nevertheless, Ok.N. Ramesh, Commissioner, BSCC, stated the company was now awarding outlets and areas on the third to sixth flooring of tower one, to personal companies for places of work. “We’re in talks with the BDA to know the continuing arbitration with the earlier contractor. We could both develop the remaining towers ourselves, or use the area to construct the brand new workplace of the BSCC,” he stated.

The newly fashioned BSCC has sought land in Banashankari for its new workplace. “Nevertheless, the Income Division had already allotted this land to different departments, nevertheless it lies undeveloped. The land must be taken again and reallotted to the BSCC. If this doesn’t fructify, we’re considering of utilizing the remaining Jayanagar market land to construct our new workplace,” Mr. Ramesh stated.
