PARIS — South Korean President Lee Jae Myung stated Wednesday he’s making frequent abroad journeys for summit diplomacy to maximise their advantages, as his time period is constitutionally “restricted.”

Lee made the remarks throughout a gathering with a gaggle of Korean residents in France on the final day of his four-day journey to the nation for a summit with French President Emmanuel Macron.

“I’ve scheduled many abroad visits through the preliminary stage (of my presidency),” Lee stated.

“As my time period is clearly restricted beneath the Structure, the results (of abroad diplomacy) might be prolonged solely after I begin early,” the president added.

His remarks come amid latest suspicions raised by opposition celebration lawmakers that the president could also be looking for reelection by way of a constitutional revision, though the Structure stipulates that any adjustments to the presidential system shall not apply to the president in workplace on the time of a revision.

The president and his ruling Democratic Celebration have been pushing for a constitutional revision that may mandate a shift to a four-year, two-term presidential system from the present single five-year time period system.

The president reiterated that summit diplomacy, if pursued too late in a presidency, could solely result in restricted advantages even when carried out efficiently, whereas stressing that summit diplomacy could create new alternatives for funding, in addition to financial and safety cooperation.

He additionally highlighted the significance of benefiting from South Korea’s rising world standing, pledging to “do effectively in order to not make folks fear.”
