Angered by frequent and extended energy outages in his constituency, Virendra Jati, Congress MLA from Jhabreda in Haridwar district, staged an uncommon protest by reducing off the electrical energy provide to senior energy division officers’ residences.

On Tuesday, Jati arrived in Roorkee along with his supporters, carrying a ladder and reducing instruments. He first climbed an electrical energy pole outdoors the official residence of superintending engineer Vivek Rajput on the Boat Membership space and disconnected the facility provide.

The MLA then moved in a convoy to the houses of chief engineer Anupam Singh and govt engineer Vinod Pandey, the place he equally snapped their electrical energy connections. Notably, the chief engineer was among the many three officers whose houses have been left with out energy.

‘Public Suffers for Hours, Officers Can’t Bear One Hour’

Jati alleged that residents of his constituency have been going through unannounced energy cuts lasting 5 to eight hours day by day, resulting in public hardship and heavy enterprise losses. He claimed he had repeatedly raised the problem with the electrical energy division over the previous 10 days however acquired no response.

“After only one hour with out electrical energy, the officers have been in misery. However the public suffers for hours day by day,” the MLA mentioned, defending his actions.

Police Criticism Towards The MLA

The electrical energy division filed a grievance in opposition to Jati on the Roorkee Civil Traces Police Station, accusing him of reducing energy traces with no correct shutdown.

In line with the division, the MLA’s actions might have led to a critical accident. The grievance said that the act amounted to a violation of security norms and guidelines, and constituted direct interference in authorities functioning.

Police are actually inspecting the grievance because the incident triggers debate over protest strategies, accountability, and public anger over persistent energy outages.
