PETALING JAYA: Beregu wanita No. 1 negara, Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah mengulangi pencapaian tahun lalu selepas mara ke separuh akhir pada Kejohanan Badminton Terbuka India di New Delhi, India, hari ini.

Pasangan No. 2 dunia itu menundukkan beregu No. 9 dunia dari Taiwan, Hsieh Pei Shan-Hung En Tzu 21-16, 21-10 dalam masa 33 minit di suku akhir.

Kemenangan tersebut menyaksikan Pearly-Thinaah kini mendahului selesa rekod pertemuan 3-0 mengatasi Pei Shan-En Tzu.

Pada separuh akhir, esok, naib juara Kejohanan Dunia itu bakal berdepan beregu No. 6 dunia, Yuki Fukushima-Mayu Matsumoto.

Gandingan Jepun tersebut merupakan pencabar Pearly-Thinaah di suku akhir pada edisi lalu yang berkesudahan wakil negara itu muncul sebagai pemenang dengan keputusan straight set 21-18, 21-19.

Bagaimanapun, Fukushima-Matsumoto adalah beregu yang mengecewakan mereka pada peringkat kumpulan dan separuh akhir di Jelajah Dunia Akhir (WTF), Hangzhou, China, Disember lalu.

Ini merupakan peluang terbaik Pearly-Thinaah membalas dendam dan mengembalikan keyakinan bahawa mereka mampu menewaskan Fukushima-Matsumoto selepas tumpas dua kali berturut-turut di WTF.

Berdasarkan rekod pertemuan kedua-dua beregu, Pearly-Thinaah masih mendahului dengan lima kemenangan berbalas tiga kekalahan.

Pada Terbuka India, tahun lepas, Pearly-Thinaah kalah kepada beregu Korea Selatan, Kim Hye Jeong-Kong Hee Yong yang menghuni rating No. 3 dunia 18-21, 18-21 di separuh akhir.

Sementara itu, dalam aksi beregu campuran, pasangan No. 10 dunia, Goh Quickly Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai tewas di tangan gandingan No. 1 dunia, Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping dari China 21-19, 19-21, 21-18 dalam masa 1 jam 15 minit.

Kekalahan itu juga menyaksikan, pasangan suami isteri tersebut gagal mengulangi pencapaian tahun lalu menjejakkan kaki sehingga ke separuh akhir selepas akur di tangan beregu No. 2 dunia, Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin dari China. – UTUSAN
