Bharatiya Janata Social gathering (BJP) legislator from Darjeeling district’s Kurseong constituency Bishnu Prasad Sharma on Thursday joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC), saying solely the ruling get together labored for the event of his constituency.

“I wish to inform those that voted for me that I wish to work for the event they demand. The Centre by no means despatched funds however growth of Kurseong was not affected because the state did its job,” Sharma instructed media individuals after he was inducted into the get together in presence of senior cupboard ministers Shashi Panja and Bratya Basu on the TMC headquarters in Kolkata.

Sharma stated BJP didn’t make any effort for a separate state of Gorkhaland as promised of their election manifesto.

“BJP won’t ever give something to the Gorkhas. They solely make hole guarantees to safe votes,” Sharma stated.

Though BJP secured 77 of Bengal’s 294 meeting seats towards the TMC’s 213 in 2021, the saffron camp’s tally has come down by round a dozen due to resignations, defections and a demise. Not one of the MLAs who joined TMC after 2021 resigned from the meeting. Sharma adopted the identical path.

He was sustaining distance from BJP since 2024 when he rebelled and contested the Darjeeling Lok Sabha seat as an impartial candidate towards BJP’s sitting MP Raju Bista who received for the second time. Sharma bought solely 7,447 votes whereas Bista secured 6,79,331.

On February 7, when the legislative meeting’s price range session ended, Sharma instructed media individuals that he received’t contest the upcoming polls for BJP.

Shankar Ghosh, the BJP MLA from Darjeeling district’s Siliguri seat and the get together’s chief whip within the meeting, stated Sharma used to remain aloof.

“He made his intentions clear by contesting towards Bista. However he should keep in mind the truth that he couldn’t even get extra votes than BJP in his personal constituency in 2024,” Ghosh stated.
