With the world’s consideration targeted on wars within the Center East and Ukraine, a serious geopolitical improvement in Europe has gone largely unnoticed: U.S. President Donald Trump’s determination to drag 5,000 troops out of Germany after it refused to help U.S. and Israeli assaults on Iran.
Whereas the transfer represents lower than 10% of the roughly 80,000 to 90,000 U.S. army personnel stationed in Europe, it quantities to a shot throughout the continent’s bow.
Is that this gesture largely symbolic or will the withdrawal hurt NATO and weaken Europe’s safety? Is there extra to come back if the Europeans proceed to defy Trump? And what are the longer-term strategic implications — not simply in Europe, however in Asia, too?
