Almost one-third of respondents mentioned that they had been prompted to take instant motion by means of techniques comparable to visiting an internet site promoted in an commercial, clicking hyperlinks shared on social media or messaging apps, downloading an app or file, or scanning a QR code.

The research carried out by cybersecurity agency McAfee famous that well being scams have gotten more and more refined and various.

These scams vary from pretend weight-loss and health merchandise to deceptive details about illnesses or medical merchandise, counterfeit dietary supplements and nutritional vitamins, and fraudulent medical remedies or so-called “cures”.

In keeping with the research, scams are not confined to suspicious web sites or spam emails. As a substitute, they’ve unfold to social media feeds, messaging platforms, on-line ads and influencer-driven content material.

Social media emerged as the most typical channel, with 53 per cent of respondents reporting that that they had encountered a well being rip-off on these platforms. This was adopted by messaging apps comparable to WhatsApp and Telegram (37 per cent), cellphone calls (33 per cent), web sites or on-line ads (30 per cent), e-mail (26 per cent), on-line marketplaces (24 per cent), textual content messages (23 per cent) and in-person interactions (19 per cent).

The research additionally discovered that misinformation is more and more exploiting the belief shoppers place in celebrities and influencers by making manipulated well being content material seem extra credible and genuine.

Greater than half of these surveyed encountered well being or wellness content material that seemed to be endorsed by a celeb or public determine however was later revealed or suspected to be pretend, deceptive or AI-generated.
