Latest Zini controversy raises key questions ahead of Israeli elections

Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) demonstrators burned bushes and tried to dam site visitors at Jerusalem’s Bar-Ilan Intersection on Tuesday in protest of the town’s gentle rail development, Israeli media reported.

The protests observe an N12 Information report that haredi protests have cumulatively triggered over NIS 400 million in injury to the Jerusalem gentle rail’s unfinished Inexperienced Line since development started about six years in the past.

Bar-Ilan Road, one in every of a number of traversed by the brand new gentle rail line, has been the scene of many of those protests.

Throughout a protest final week, haredi demonstrators broken pipes that have been set to be put in on the brand new gentle rail line, N12 reported.

In keeping with N12, the protests have triggered Kfir, the corporate that operates Jerusalem’s gentle rail, to vary opening dates and routing in a number of sections of the road.

For instance, the part between Givat Shaul and Ammunition Hill was initially set to start service by the tip of 2025. Nevertheless, extreme vandalism by protesters has pushed the part’s opening to 2027, with the potential for additional delays.

As an alternative, the primary part to open would be the one between the prevailing HaTurim Station and the Malha Mall space, already in superior testing and slated to start operations by the tip of 2026.

The protests proceed regardless of dozens of indictments filed in opposition to protesters over the previous six years, N12 reported, citing the Jerusalem District Lawyer’s Workplace.

Expenses in opposition to protesters embody disorderly conduct, rioting, illegal meeting, and prison trespassing, the workplace stated.

As well as, Jerusalem’s municipality has filed civil lawsuits in opposition to demonstrators for the damages attributable to vandalism and schedule delays.
