Mis-selling regulations need a lot more teeth

By now, we’re all accustomed to German YouTuber Jarow’s 2021 viral hit ‘Haaland (Ha Ha Ha),’ a tongue‑in‑cheek ode to Norwegian soccer star Erling Haaland. However that tune is a direct take of Dschinghis Khan’s delightfully infectious 1979 track ‘Moskau’. That an ABBA-esque tune dunked in late Chilly Battle Soviet juices might be reborn as a viral soccer chant speaks volumes about its enduring catchiness.

‘Moskau’ is constructed on a relentless beat, galloping like a Cossack horse throughout the dance ground. It’s opening traces, ‘Moskau,/ Fremd und geheimnisvoll/ Türme aus rotem Gold,/ Kalt wie das Eis’ (Moscow,/ Unusual and mysterious/ Towers of crimson gold,/ Chilly because the ice) is definitely quite haunting. That is s disco march that transforms kitsch into energy.

And the refrain—‘Moskau, Moskau,/ Deine Seele ist so groß/ Nachts, da ist der Teufel los,/ Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha, hey!’ (‘Moscow, Moscow,/ Your soul is so nice/ At evening, all hell breaks free/ Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha, hey!’ ) is sure to ship probably the most sober soul spinning. It is a track that proves that pop anthemic simplicity can outlast developments, and make you snort, shout, and dance suddenly.
