Sri Lanka Police have frozen two properties value greater than Rs. 130 million in Embilipitiya over suspicions that they have been bought with cash earned by unlawful drug trafficking.

The investigation was launched after the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Embilipitiya referred a grievance to the Unlawful Belongings Investigation Division relating to properties believed to have been bought by two people utilizing proceeds from drug trafficking.

Police are conducting the investigation underneath the Prevention of Cash Laundering Act.

One of many properties is a one-acre and two-rood land with a three-storey home at Kavantissapura, Embilipitiya. The property, lined by a deed of switch, has an estimated worth of Rs. 70 million.

The second property is a 23.7-perch land with a three-storey home at Bimbaduyaya, New City, Embilipitiya. Additionally it is lined by a deed of switch and is estimated to be value Rs. 60 million.

Investigations have revealed that the 2 suspects are believed to have bought the properties, valued at greater than Rs. 130 million in complete, utilizing cash illegally earned by drug trafficking.

Accordingly, the Unlawful Belongings Investigation Division has issued orders underneath the Prevention of Cash Laundering Act to freeze each properties for 14 days from September 7, 2026.

The Unlawful Belongings Investigation Division is conducting additional investigations.
