Gandhi was ever the seeker. As poet Iqbal says, ‘I’ve all the time been wandering/ looking for my interior self/ As if I’m myself the voyager/ and the vacation spot.’ The important thing themes of those ideas centre on Reality, the last word basis of ethical life; ahimsa; energy of the powerless; mastery of senses, and repair to God by means of service to humanity. This was the trail to self-regulation and Self- realisation, overcoming concern to achieve power for ethical resistance and freedom.
Historian Louis Fischer says Gandhi didn’t preach faith; he was a residing sermon. He had authority devoid of energy. Energy is the attribute of a machine; authority is the attribute of an individual. Gandhi’s rejection of energy enhanced his authority. Energy feeds the blood and tears of its victims; authority is fed by service, sympathy and affection. In a world racked by concern and fracture, his ideas stay remarkably related.
