Laos and Thailand have moved a deliberate 820-meter bridge in Luang Prabang Province into the subsequent stage of growth, with the challenge’s environmental and social affect evaluation and detailed design now full and building anticipated to start in 2027.

Bridge Particulars

The bridge will join Chomphet District with Luang Prabang City, crossing the Mekong River.

It will likely be 820 meters lengthy and 21.6 meters broad, with 5 box-girder spans. The central part can be 120 meters lengthy and 15 meters above the river to permit boats to move beneath.

A 14-kilometer connecting street will hyperlink the 2 ends of the bridge.

Development is predicted to take 4 years, adopted by seven years of operation and upkeep below an Output and Efficiency-Based mostly Contract.

The bridge is now focused to open in 2031.

Linking Luang Prabang to Thailand

The bridge is predicted to strengthen street connections between Luang Prabang and the Xayabouly-Thailand border hall.

Chomphet is the one district in Luang Prabang Province positioned on the alternative financial institution of the Mekong from Luang Prabang city. It borders Xayabouly, which connects onward to Thailand’s Nan Province.
