Sri Lanka reaffirmed its robust dedication to international disarmament and the elimination of nuclear weapons on the high-level section of the Convention on Disarmament held in Geneva on February 23, 2026.

The high-level section of the Convention on Disarmament started in Geneva on February 23, 2026, below the presidency of Omar Zniber of Morocco. The session will proceed till February 25, 2026.

Sri Lanka’s Minister of International Affairs, International Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, addressed the Convention by a video message on the opening day. In his assertion, he harassed the significance of strengthening the multilateral system to face present international challenges and to make sure lasting peace and safety for each current and future generations.

Reaffirming Sri Lanka’s dedication to international disarmament objectives, Minister Herath recalled the nation’s energetic function in worldwide disarmament efforts over time. He famous that as a growing island nation from the World South, Sri Lanka has persistently supported initiatives aimed toward lowering international arms.

The Minister highlighted Sri Lanka’s agency place on stopping an arms race in outer house and known as for the whole elimination of nuclear weapons. He additionally expressed continued help for establishing Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zones within the Center East.

He additional identified that Sri Lanka stays involved concerning the affect of rising applied sciences on Worldwide Humanitarian Regulation.
