Japanese PM Takaichi in push to revise pacifist constitution as regional tensions rise
As a consequence of its wartime previous, Japan adopted a pacifist Structure that limits its navy to self-defence. Now Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is asking for ‘superior discussions’ on revising the Structure, organising a panel tasked with reviewing the nation’s safety and defence insurance policies as regional tensions escalate. FRANCE 24’s Sharon Gaffney speaks with Giulio Pugliese, Lecturer in Strategic Communications at King’s Faculty London and Director of the EU-Asia Mission on the European College Institute.
