UPDATE – 01:00 PM: Police say 25 individuals, together with jail officers, have died within the conflict that broke out on the Negombo Jail this morning (July 06).
It’s also reported that almost 100 individuals have been injured within the conflict.
The Negombo Hospital stated gunshot wounds have been discovered on the our bodies of a few of those that died and on a few of the injured.
UPDATE – 12:39 PM: The loss of life toll from the renewed unrest at Negombo Jail this morning (July 06) has risen to 19.

UPDATE – 11:05 AM: Practically 20 individuals injured in renewed unrest at Negombo Jail have been admitted to the Negombo District Basic Hospital.
Extra police and Police Particular Job Pressure (STF) groups have been deployed to regulate the state of affairs.

A conflict first broke out between two teams of inmates at Negombo Jail at round 1:00 PM yesterday (July 05).
Police stated the confrontation came about between a bunch of remand prisoners and a bunch of convicted inmates serving sentences.
Two inmates died in yesterday’s conflict, whereas 38 others sustained accidents and are at the moment receiving therapy in hospital.
