The federal government has determined to increase the deadline for putting in seat belts in all passenger seats of autos travelling on expressways by an additional three months, following requests from related stakeholders.
The extension was made by means of an modification to the Motor Site visitors (Highways) Laws No. 2 of 2011, issued beneath Extraordinary Gazette Notification No. 2493/19 dated June 17, 2026.
Accordingly, the grace interval granted for autos that weren’t initially fitted with seat belts by producers has been prolonged till September 19, 2026. The earlier deadline expired on June 19.
The obligatory requirement for all occupants of autos utilizing expressways to put on seat belts was launched beneath the Motor Site visitors Act to cut back deaths brought on by street accidents and reduce critical accidents.
The Cupboard of Ministers has accepted a proposal submitted by the Minister of Transport, Highways and City Growth to current the amended laws to Parliament for approval.
