Relations of a 29-year-old man who died whereas within the custody of the Homagama Police Headquarters have accused law enforcement officials of assaulting him.
The deceased has been recognized as Francis Durage Ishara Harsha Kumara, a father of 1 who resided in Munamale Watta, Kiriwaththuduwa.
The Homagama Police stated the person had been arrested after being present in possession of 490 milligrams of the drug often called ‘ice’.
In response to his relations, the person was arrested by police within the early hours of in the present day (25) and died whereas being held in a police cell.
Relations who visited the Homagama Police Headquarters this morning to test on his situation stated they noticed him being carried out of the Felony Investigation Division by 4 law enforcement officials.
They alleged that the younger man had been assaulted.
The police subsequently organized to confess him to the Homagama Base Hospital after he was discovered mendacity within the police cell, following a request by his relations.
Nonetheless, the relations claimed that he had already died by the point he was taken to hospital.
Tensions flared on the Homagama Base Hospital after relations, demanding justice over his demise, turned agitated inside the hospital premises.
