A landslide within the Udakalagama space of the Gallella Grama Niladhari Division inside the Ratnapura Divisional Secretariat Division has reportedly been reactivated as a result of prevailing hostile climate situations affecting the nation.
The Ratnapura District Catastrophe Administration Centre said that 12 households have been evacuated from the affected space in consequence.
The landslide was first recognized in 2025, and following an on-site inspection performed by geologists from the Nationwide Constructing Analysis Organisation (NBRO), the placement was categorized as a high-risk landslide zone.
Accordingly, after the landslide confirmed indicators of reactivation at round 6.30 a.m. yesterday (22), households residing adjoining to the location had been briefly evacuated.
In the meantime, amid the persevering with heavy rainfall, the NBRO has issued landslide early warnings for six districts.
Accordingly, evacuation-level purple warnings have been issued for Deraniyagala, Ruwanwella and Dehiowita within the Kegalle District, in addition to Eheliyagoda, Kuruwita, Ayagama and Ratnapura within the Ratnapura District.
As well as, Degree Two landslide warnings, advising residents to stay alert, have been issued for Seethawaka and Padukka within the Colombo District; Attanagalla within the Gampaha District; Bulathsinhala, Horana, Ingiriya and Palindanuwara within the Kalutara District; Yatiyanthota within the Kegalle District; and Pelmadulla, Kiriella, Elapatha, Kalawana and Nivithigala within the Ratnapura District.
Moreover, Degree One landslide warnings, advising residents to stay vigilant, have been issued for Mirigama and Divulapitiya within the Gampaha District; Agalawatta and Matugama within the Kalutara District; Bulathkohupitiya within the Kegalle District; and Ambagamuwa within the Nuwara Eliya District.
